Yesterday we had the follow - up session on IT Women's Council Development Day held back in August. We were splitted into few groups of 7-8 people and we are assigned with a task to give presentation on one of the following topics : leadership, personal branding, career development or self - awareness. Our group chose to present about self - awareness. The event was closed with talk on "Dressed for Success" and year end dinner.
Some of the take - home points from the learning :
- Being self - aware is knowing what makes you happy and what you want in life.
- Your behaviour affects everybody around you, don't let your feeling effect your performance.
- Self - confidence should come from self - awareness, self - confidence without self - awareness is dangerous thing.
- When you receive feedback, especially negative feedback, sit back and reflect on it, because more often than not, your alter ego will come first and you become defensive.
I had quite some discussions with my manager recently regarding career planning. Finally I made a plan to move, I want to move to business engineering and analysis role. My manager is kind enough to help with the plan. It's not an overnight plan, but I am working towards it. One thing that I realized throughout the discussion, I'm a realistic, engineer - type person and not a science-type person. When I do something, I need to see it in use in reality and I can't do just for the sake of doing.
